Bears sign Mark Sanchez to back up Mike Glennon

Bears sign Mark Sanchez to back up Mike Glennon”

The former first round pick completed just ten passes in two games previous year for the Cowboys.

The signing gives the Bears three quarterbacks on the roster and seems to give them leeway to use their top draft picks on other positions next month.

Sanchez will be the fourth signal caller in the Bears QB room, joining starter Mike Glennon, Connor Shaw and David Fales.

Sanchez would lose the quarterback battle with Denver to Trevor Siemian and was released by the Broncos.

On Thursday, Ian Rapoport of reported the Bears are expected to sign the 2009 No. 5 overall pick.

At one point, Sanchez was expected to be the quarterback of the future for the New York Jets, but struggled heavily without a very strong running game to back him up. He slides in as the No. 2 behind Mike Glennon. He had 30 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, and an 84.6 quarterback rating during that time.

In that scenario, the Bears could target a second-tier quarterback in the draft such as Pittsburgh's Nate Peterman, California's Davis Webb, or Miami's Brad Kaaya.

As for the Bears, they are coming off an abysmal 3-13 season and haven't been to the playoffs since the 2010 campaign. There have been a number of Bears mock drafts that address the concerns at receiver in later rounds, but experts like Mel Kiper at ESPN feel that the Bears are going to target defense with that nice first-round selection.
