Support for 'American Health Care Act' may not be enough

Support for 'American Health Care Act' may not be enough”

Rep. David Valadao's constituents will rally in front of his district office today to protest the current House Republican health care bill, the American Health Care Act.

According to Wallethub, the city of Yuma is ranked as the most negatively affected city to suffer under the President's news healthcare plan.

Initially, conservatives criticized the AHCA for not striking the provision that requires all health plans provide essential health benefits, saying the bill doesn't do enough to lessen regulations on insurers or lower premiums. "It also cares for many people that are disabled". As a result, an estimated 15 million will lose their Medicaid coverage, or roughly 25 percent of people who now benefit from the program. The new Trump Care plan will make care for her children unaffordable.

In 2013 I lost my job and, consequently, my health insurance.

Already, thanks to the 1977 Hyde Amendment, federal funds are barred from use to pay for abortion services-with the exception of cases of incest, rape, and pregnancies where the mother's life is at risk. In 2015, the past year complete figures were available, 19.2 million Americans either paid the penalty for not having insurance or claimed an exemption to avoid purchasing insurance, while only 10.4 million people total were enrolled in coverage. Thanks to this law, more than ninety percent of Americans are insured - the highest rate in our history. That number will jump to 24 million by 2026.

Without the tax, premiums will go up as fewer healthy people purchase insurance. The CBO's analysis of the AHCA indicates that there will be a decrease in the deficit, but a modest shift at best.

We need a representative in Washington who listens to, responds thoughtfully and represents the people here in District 13.

Importantly, the AHCA maintains a firewall between the new tax credits and the existing employer sponsored insurance, which over 177 million individuals rely for highly valued coverage. Moderate-income families will lose subsidies, and many other families will lose their Medicaid coverage.

The ACHA will also give each state a fixed amount of money for Medicaid instead of receiving federal assistance based on medical care given. Republicans and Republican leaners with no more than a high school diploma are almost twice as likely as those with a college degree to say ensuring health care coverage is a government responsibility (43% vs. 22%).

The reason for the rise in deductibles under the health care bill Trump has thrown his weight behind is simple. By no means is the ACA ideal; it does have flaws.

I ponder how we have come to accept we all aren't worthy of receiving good health care.
