EBay to launch "Guaranteed Delivery" in the U.S. this Summer

EBay to launch

This news comes as the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart, announced earlier this year that it will offer free two-day shipping on more than 2 million items, when shoppers spend at least $35. With "Guaranteed Delivery" items, eBay will either refund the shipping or give you a coupon if they don't arrive on time.

eBay stated that it will guarantee delivery of the ordered items within three days on 20 million of products on its platform.

From the summer, the site will guarantee the speedy delivery of 20 million products from certain sellers who now meet delivery promises.

The Delivery Guarantee program just ensures that your products arrive in three days or less. eBay claims that 67 percent of purchases already ship free, and 63 percent are delivered in three days or less.

eBay allow me to search for "Free P&P" or "Click & Collect" as delivery options, but they don't enable me to search for "Fast (not very fast in my opinion) & Free".

Apart from these, the buyer has the option to return the guaranteed item at no cost if it had arrived late. So the company is not so much rolling out a new feature as it is highlighting an already-existing part of its culture: eBay can't actually make deliveries go faster, since it doesn't handle shipments directly.

One analyst questioned whether the move would appeal to eBay customers.

For sellers, eBay said that the Guaranteed Delivery program would not result in any additional costs. The service, designed around instant gratification, will launch this summer and could be seen as a direct rival to Amazon Prime.

The tools will be free, but eBay has mentioned that sellers must meet some required shipping standards to be eligible for the program.

The e-commerce platform announced it will guarantee delivery in three days or less on 20 million eligible items in the U.S. - shoppers will also be able to search for and filter items by one- and two-day delivery.
