Rory McIlroy closes in on leader Kevin Kisner at Arnold Palmer invitational

He almost won two majors during that span, at the 2013 Masters and 2015 Open. But will next year's tournament be special, too, and in the years to follow without Palmer's presence?

Leishman is projected to rise to No 32 in the world rankings, while Jason Day is also set to drop one spot to world No 3 with McIlroy's Bay Hill finish. "I struggled the first two days but found it a bit on the weekend".

For the second Florida event in four weeks, Englishman Tyrrell Hatton played the final round with the eventual victor, after partnering Rickie Fowler when he won in Palm Beach a month ago.

McIlroy had been four over par after two holes of his second round and despite a flawless 65 on Saturday, started the final day five shots off the lead shared by Kisner and Hoffman.

Leishman carded a closing 69 at Bay Hill to claim his second PGA Tour title by a single shot from Americans Kevin Kisner and Charley Hoffman, with McIlroy a shot further back alongside England's Tyrrell Hatton.

"You won, Daddy!" Harvey squealed.

This Arnold Palmer Invitational meant so much more than just the shiny silver trophy. In 2016, Leishman left the season's first major when wife suffered near-fatal illness. Leishman spent the next 96 hours by her bedside, barely able to eat, his mind racing, as the thought of being a single father of two young boys became a distinct possibility.

"It's playing good and you can make some putts", Hoffman said. "When I woke up, it was a big relief for them, and that's when my nightmare started".

"I think my grandfather's legacy speaks for itself". There was even a minor complication at this event past year, when a family trip to the theme parks ended up with Audrey in the hospital to receive IV fluids and steroids. I was overly aggressive with it and missed the one coming back, but it's been a good week.

So you can guarantee Audrey, who is is pregnant with the couple's third child, will be in the gallery at Augusta when Leishman plays his fifth Masters.

He recovered so well that he came to the 18th realising he needed one more birdie to apply pressure on Leishman.

"It's been a wild ride and it certainly makes golf less important". It's not life and death, " Leishman said. We've been in that situation. He had three birdies and two bogeys before making the eagle.

The PGA Tour is a traveling circus of sorts that roots itself into a golf course for a week and then, as soon as a champion is crowned, everyone is gone as quickly as the final putt disappears.

The beloved tournament host always camped out on the 16th tee, and he would have loved what he saw from Leishman.

"That one on 16, I actually hit that putt earlier in the week and missed it low left, and I worked on that, so practice pays off", said Leisgman.
