Trump prepares to issue new travel ban

Trump prepares to issue new travel ban”

The White House could announce the new order as early as today, sources told Reuters. The new order will replace the old order that was blocked by the federal courts.

However, the officials confirmed the other six Muslim-majority countries - Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen - will remain on the travel ban list despite previous global outrage and condemnation.

The order went into effect immediately to worldwide outrage as travellers from these nations were either detained at arrival in the USA or were turned away from airports when they came to board their US-bound flights.

Trump is expected to sign the executive order in the coming days.

President Donald Trump won't sign a revised travel ban on Wednesday as had been anticipated, two senior administration officials confirmed.

"We want the (executive order) to have its own 'moment, '" the official said. They had urged the White House to reconsider Iraq's inclusion given its key role in fighting Daesh, it added.

The new executive order will make clear that legal permanent residents (otherwise known as green card holders) are excluded from any travel ban, and those with validly issued visas will also be exempt from the ban.

Civic right lawyers and activists swung into action in the U.S., and challenged the order in court, and obtained a stay in NY.

The Trump administration was initially expected to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court, but ultimately chose to instead pursue a new executive order that could stand legal muster.
