White House does not rule out Sessions recusal on Russian Federation probes

Republican Representative Darrel Issa said in an interview late Friday he believed Sessions and his deputy, also a political appointee, needed to separate themselves from the Federal Bureau of Investigation probes related to Trump.

Maher:"And Jeff Sessions must recuse himself, in the same way Loretta Lynch recused herself because he was part of the Trump campaign".

She cited news reports that White House officials had asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation to dispute a New York Times story on February 14 indicating regular contacts between senior Russian intelligence agents and members of Trump's team during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Maher posed a question to Issa about the FBI's investigation Trump-Russia by flipping the controversy on its head. "I think that this is a pretty similar scenario", Huckabee Sanders said.

Issa, a Trump supporter who serves as chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said congressional committees should be allowed to do their work.

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn resigned earlier this month after acknowledging he did not provide Vice President Mike Pence with a full account of his communications with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak - conversations that reportedly involved United States sanctions. Maher pointed out that Issa once called Barack Obama "one of the most corrupt presidents". "You're going to need to use the special prosecutor's statute and office".

Then, Issa doubles down on his statement with a critical take on Russian Federation.

"We're confident whatever review that Congress wants to do, that's the first step", she added. This is a bad guy who murders people who runs a gas station with an economy the size of Italy but is screwing up things all over the world that we've been doing "working with".

"An independent prosecutor", Maher interjected to Issa's nod of agreement. Now we have to work with them.

"They came to us, they approached us for putting that story out there", said White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, speaking on ABC's This Week.
