North Victoria to acquire 3 solar farms totalling 320 MW

The Finger Lakes region saw the second-highest growth in solar installations across the state in the last five years, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday.

Despite the Sunshine State moniker, Florida Power & Light has been slow to bring solar energy onto its distribution center, which played a part in the demise of the NextEra-Hawaiian Electric Co. deal previous year. These projects total nearly 744 megawatts of solar power installed.

The projects were supported by several public agencies, including the state Energy and Research and Development Authority and the New York Power Authority. He also said that his company is accelerating its solar plans as new facilities are becoming more cost effective.

"New York is a national leader in clean energy, and the tremendous growth of the solar industry across this state demonstrates this renewal technology's increased accessibility and affordability for residents and businesses", Cuomo said.

NextEra subsidiary Florida Power & Light intends to accelerate the addition of new solar resources by adding eight different projects by 2018 for a total of 596 MW of renewable energy, essentially doubling the utility's previous commitment to install solar panels.

"Our investments in this clean energy resource create jobs, reduce carbon emissions, support economic growth, and help build a cleaner, greener NY for all", he added.

United Kingdom solar developer Island Green Power (IGP) has teamed up with local Australian renewable energy developer Overland Sun Farming to construct three large-scale solar projects in the northwest Victorian towns of Yatpool, Iraak and Wemen. This programme also spurred solar growth in the state by stimulating the marketplace and increasing the number of solar systems in state. But the utility is shifting gears and intends to develop about 600 MW in the next couple of years alongside projects it has recently completed.
