DeVos unqualified to be education secretary

DeVos unqualified to be education secretaryā€¯

Tim Kaine, D-Va., to compare those who support expanding school choice to segregationists, as he recently did in an effort to score political points against recently confirmed Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. There's tremendous choice in DC already so there's nothing that needs to be fixed we need fairness.

Sara Goldrick-Rab, a professor of higher education, said she thinks public universities are intentionally under-funded while tax money goes to for-profit universities. Many are centered in big cities and often attract minority students from low-performing public school systems. If in doubt, all we need to convince ourselves of the truth of his statement is to compare our public schools located in affluent communities with those in poor Latino or black neighborhoods. "If presented with other options, public schools win out, because people see the value in what they're getting from them".

DeVos also had a less-than-stellar confirmation hearing in which great amounts of doubt were planted in her ability to act as the department head. Most of her work has gone towards promoting private and charter school expansion throughout the country.

DeVos's nomination was the subject of unprecedented controversy for an education secretary, with opposition coming from both the left and the right.

However, the page differs greatly from what was up prior to DeVos' confirmation and much of the information that was most helpful to educators, students, and parents has disappeared. "We can never lose sight of the connection between education and jobs".

Cucchiara said a lot of people in the USA believe the public school system is failing.

"I do believe deeply in public schooling".

Portman says he'll be listening to Puzder's answers as he did before he made a decision to vote for other controversial picks, including Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price and, this week, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin. I can only imagine what the reaction must have been to such a flippant answer from the hundreds of parents whose children and their teachers have died in school massacres.

Under DeVos, no unions will get their hands on teachers' paychecks or order strikes whenever they want another pound of flesh.

"Maybe I am old fashioned, but democracy depends on a high-quality education system", he said. Vouchers, money given directly to parents to allow them to choose the school they want to educate their children, and charter schools, one of the options to existing private schools, means competition for taxpayer money to educate children.

OH COME ON. While we're on the subject, now also seems like an appropriate moment to remember that Donald Trump thinks Frederick Douglass is a feisty young newcomer ready to take the world by storm, and not someone who has been dead since 1895.
