Agni IV nuclear-capable ballistic missile test-fired successfully”

The launch came exactly a week after India tested the Agni-V, the countrys longest range nuclear capable missile.

The missile has been developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and is a long-range missile that is propelled by composite rocket motor technology. Agni-5 has a range of over 5,000 km and can carry about a 1,000-kg warhead.

Amid concerns raised by China over developing long range strategic ballistic missiles, India once again test fired a nuclear capable ballistic missile from its eastern coast of Odisha on Monday.

The missile's length is 20 meters and launches weight 17 tonnes. "The missile equipped with state of the art Avionics, 5th generation On Board Computer and with distributed architecture has the latest features to correct and guide for in-flight disturbances".

"The most accurate Ring Laser Gyro-based Inertial Navigation System [RINS] and supported by highly-reliable Micro Navigation System [MINGS], ensures the vehicle reaches the target within two-digit accuracy", the agency quoting sources from the DRDO said.

The electro optical systems and Radars had been positioned along the coast of Odisha for monitoring and tracking all the parameters of the missile.
