Lok Sabha adjourned for the day due to Oppn uproar”

However, the opposition members created a ruckus and the Speaker adjourned the House till 12 noon.

A vociferous Opposition in the Lok Sabha today continued their protests against the government over the demonetisation issue, forcing adjournment of the proceedings till noon.

Senior Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday handed over to Speaker Sumitra Mahajan his resignation from the Lok Sabha membership to protest over the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue. He said, the decision has been considered in the interest of the nation.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with ministers in parliament amid call for nationwide protests by opposition parties.

When the house reassembled, the Speaker reprimanded Yadav for his conduct.

The Lok Sabha was earlier in the day adjourned till 2 pm following an uproar by the Opposition parties.

The speaker has taken a cognizance of the incident and will talk to the Parliament security officers regarding the same. Amidst the din, the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for the day. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley moved the IT Amendment Bill in the House.

A meeting of all the opposition parties, barring JD (U), was held in the chamber of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad in Parliament House here and it was decided that the protests will continue till their demands are met, sources said. Shiv Sena has backed demonetisation but said it is unhappy over the way it was causing problems to people. When the House re-assembled after its first adjournment, Opposition Congress members continued to troop into the well of the House raising slogans against the government's decision. Deputy Chairman Prof. P J Kurien told the agitating members that the best way to reflect the problems of the people is to resume the discussion.

Retorting at the Opposition attack, Union Home Minister said the Centre is ready to debate and added that the Prime Minister will speak on demonetisation if needed.
