Wenger Reveals The Reason Behind Xhaka's Meagre Amount Of Arsenal Game Time

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he is "very happy" with how Granit Xhaka is adapting to life at the club.

"He needs to adapt, then we need to find the balance", Wenger said when quizzed on Xhaka's absence from the team.

"He's more a deep playmaker than a box-to-box player".

The Swiss worldwide became the Gunners' third most expensive signing in their history following his £34million move from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer, but he has failed to hold down a regular place. "He is more a guy who has a fantastic pass to play through the lines". At his news conference on Friday, Wenger declared himself very happy with the Switzerland international's development but did admit he hasn't started as many games as he would have liked.

Speaking ahead of the game, Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson, who is likely to start on Sunday with Hector Bellerin out injured, was quick to praise Chilean worldwide Sanchez. It's hard to see Eddie Howe send his team out to do what the likes of Middlesbrough and Burnley did - sitting deep to frustrate an Arsenal side who find it tough to craft the openings they need.

He added: "I let him go this season because we bought Xhaka, we have Elneny, Ramsey, and I thought if he doesn't play regularly, and he wasn't fit enough to be in the position to start games ... so I let him go".

However, the Switzerland worldwide has suffered much the same fate as Manchester United man Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has also had a slow start to life in England. "People want you always to buy players, but when you have bought the players you can (still) play 11, not 22".

So is Wenger planning to start Xhaka against Bournemouth in the hope that he can be the player to fill the boots of super Santi? "He does not get into the final third of the opposition half a lot".

"But you want them to compete and convince you that they can get in the team and then it becomes obvious they have to play". "He gets the ball from the defenders and finds the high midfield".

His all-action, dominant style of play has quickly made him a favourite amongst Gunners fans, not to mention the 24-year-old's three goals, including two spectacular long-range strikes.
