Alan Branch Suspension Leaves Rookie Vincent Valentine To Fill Void

Alan Branch Suspension Leaves Rookie Vincent Valentine To Fill Void”

Starting defensive tackle Alan Branch will be facing a four-game suspension for a violation of the league's drug policy, ESPN reported.

Schefter Tweeted the details Monday afternoon.

Schefter says Branch tested positive for marijuana. Branch plans to appeal and the suspension, thus any discipline he faces will not be served until after the appeal. Sports director Yianni Kourakis will have the latest coming up tonight on Eyewitness News at 5.

Branch was previously suspended by the Patriots in the offseason for violating team rules. Apparently, Branch tested positive for marijuana.

Branch has 33 tackles and one sack in 10 games this season.

If Branch does not win his appeal, he would leave a huge hole in the middle of the defense. His stats this season nearly match his total from last season when he totaled 35 tackles and one sack.

He was arrested in August 2014 for driving under the influence while a member of the Buffalo Bills.

The Patriots will now turn their focus to the Jets, a team they'll meet for the first time this season on Sunday at the Meadowlands (4:25 p.m., CBS). Ryan Tannehill is actually playing good football, the running game is finally there with Jay Ajayi and the defense looks like a force to be reckoned with.
