Toure inspires Man City to 2-1 win at Palace

The Ivorian midfielder returned from his first-team exile to score both goals in his sides 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Toure had been frozen out of the squad by Pep Guardiola after comments from his agent Dimitri Seluk aimed at the City boss.

Toure's return could't have gone much better as he fired City into a first-half lead before scoring the victor in the 83rd minute.

The Ivorian repaid Guardiola's faith with a 39th-minute run and shot and, after Connor Wickham had equalised in the second half, netted an 83rd-minute victor.

"Yaya's trained really well; his physical condition is better than ever". They are very important to me'. I always want to be there to help them. The former is likely to replace Kompany when City travel to Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"They have massive squad depth and, like I said, we matched them for long periods. I don't think it's the first Premier League game for him, so he has the experience to handle this kind of situation".

Toure had earlier been asked by the BBC about being clapped back into the City dressing room by his team-mates, and he said: "I was prepared mentally and I knew that one day my manager would need me".

"What we talked about will stay between me and him. So I'm happy for him and for his family", he said.

"On the back of three wins, we've now lost five and that doesn't look good on paper, but I feel like we're getting our team back together and looking a lot more solid".

A fifth successive defeat further confirmed Palace as the worst side in all divisions this calendar year and cast a huge shadow over the future of manager Alan Pardew. "We really gifted Man City two goals today from mistakes that led to the first goal and the second goal", he said.

"One month and a half he's been ready to play".

Swansea City are now bottom, with American Bob Bradley still looking for his first win as manager, after Seamus Coleman equalised for hosts Everton in the 89th minute to secure a 1-1 draw.

With Palace dangerously close to the relegation zone, Pardew knows his position will come under scrutiny, but he is confident there is time to steady the ship.

The ball eventually found Wilfried Zaha whose jink inside ended with a slipped pass for Wickham to drive the ball past Bravo.

The manager also explained the absence of Stones and Ilkay Gundogan owed to each being "so tired" after global duty - Spain's David Silva also started on the bench - and confirmed recalled captain Vincent Kompany had to come off with a head injury that "hopefully won't be too serious".
