5 reasons Trump won Ohio

5 reasons Trump won Ohio”

Early voting is down in Cuyahoga County, a Democratic stronghold, versus the 2012 election. Statewide, voter turnout - not including provisional ballots and late-arriving absentee ballots - appeared to be 67.4 percent, which is short of the 70.5 percent turnout in 2012, 69.9 percent in 2008 and 71.8 percent in 2004. No president since John Kennedy in 1960 has won the presidential election without OH on his side.

When the state was called for Trump but before he won nationwide, Ohio Democratic Party Chair David Pepper didn't sugar coat the position his party was in.

Its governor, John Kasich, was also a Republican candidate for president during the primaries, but he failed to break into the top tier of contenders.

Final results within a quarter of a percentage point would trigger an automatic recount.

Republican Donald Trump has pulled out a victory in the presidential race in OH, a battleground state known for picking White House winners.

Kasich on Wednesday morning tweeted, "The American people have spoken and it's time to come together". OH has grown disproportionately whiter, older, and less educated than the rest of the nation, and Rust Belt Republican voters have seemingly subscribed to the economic and trade anxiety heightened by the Trump campaign.

Kasich cast a symbolic write-in presidential vote for Arizona U.S. Sen.

Instead, Kasich focused his general election efforts on helping elect down-ticket Republicans, including several vulnerable USA senators and some GOP state lawmakers.

Mr. Kasich had planned to give a speech today before the American Enterprise Institute in Washington - a speech predicated on an expected Trump loss - about where the GOP must go from there.

Clinton carried 65.8 percent of the vote to Trump's 30.8 percent, resulting in a 204,080-lead heading into the final official count.

Clinton won only seven of the state's 88 counties, with her support strongest in the urban areas of Cleveland, Toledo and Columbus. Clinton, on the other hand, was seen as the ultimate political insider who has been in the public eye for three decades as first lady, U.S. Senator from NY and U.S. Secretary of State. She said she was concerned about possible riots if Trump lost.

Ground Game. The Clinton team repeatedly heralded its superior ground game to bank early ballots and drive voters to the polls on Election Day.
